The Day After: Payback

If only for a few minutes…Sierra. Hotel. India. Echo. Lima. Delta. SHIELD.

The crew from the Chad Dukes Wrestling Show had the privilege of being live and in person for last night’s WWE Payback in Baltimore, Maryland.  Having not watched the pay-per-view broadcast yet, I can only speak to the live experience, but this was an excellent show.  Save for a lull following the Divas match and the re-airing of the Daniel Bryan promo from Raw (which took a bit of steam out of the crowd for Neville-Barrett), the crowd was lively all evening leading to a fast-paced exciting main event match which saw Seth Rollins retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Let’s hit the results and live notes:

Fatal Four Way for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins retained over Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, & Roman Reigns by pinning Orton after a Pedigree.

It wasn’t the prettiest Pedigree, but I’m falling in love with this finish the more I think about it this morning. First, it plants the seeds of a Triple H-Rollins conflict down the line.  Rollins has been playing the ungrateful child card for months, how soon until he slips up and claims he is the master of the Pedigree?  Second, Seth needs a finisher, why not the Pedigree for the golden boy of the Authority?

On to the match.  Loved the pace, I’m having trouble recalling a slow moment in this match, highlighted by the brief Shield reunion.  If you were unlucky enough to miss it, midway through the match Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose triple power bombed Randy Orton throughout the English announce table.  The joy would be short-lived as Rollins would soon find himself on the receiving end of TWO power bombs of Kane onto himself and the Spanish announce table.

Kane and J&J interfered throughout making for a chaotic atmosphere.  Kane took out Reigns and Ambrose leading into the finish sequence of J&J RKOs and a draping DDT for Rollins.  But before Orton could hit the RKO on Rollins, Kane struck again sacrificing himself to the RKO so Rollins could hit the Pedigree for the win.

CM Punk on the Art of Wrestling Part 2 Recap

Part two of CM Punk on the Art of Wrestling was released late last night and while it was a more light-hearted affair than part one, Punk did respond to Vince McMahon’s public apology on Monday night, continued to lob more jabs at WWE, talked about CM Punk chants since he’s left the company and more.

This edition clocks in at about an hour and 15 minutes for the Punk portion of the show and is now hosted on Soundcloud, which is seemingly holding up to the strain of heavy internet traffic so far. Part 1 is also now hosted at Soundcloud, and we’ve embedded both parts at the bottom of this post.

Let’s get to the newsworthy portions, in non-chronological order:

  • While Punk accepted the sentiment of McMahon’s apology he didn’t feel it was a sincere apology.  Punk also remained steadfast in his belief that they “purposely and maliciously” tried to ruin his wedding.

“I don’t want to hear ‘oh, it was a coincidence. I don’t want to hear ‘oh, the lawyers didn’t talk to talent relations.’ I talked to Hunter on the 11th, on the 13th Fed Exed overnight I got a document that was dated the 12th. My wife asked for that time off so she could A) get married, B) go on her honeymoon. The weekend after her honeymoon she was back on TV. They knew. I don’t want to hear ‘oh, it was a coincidence.'”

“And you know what, I’ll address it: if the apology was sincere you wouldn’t use it as a publicity stunt on Austin’s podcast. You have my phone number, you have my address. You could text, you could call, you could show up when you’re a 10 minute fucking drive from my house and apologize to me like a man. That’s the fucking reality of it.”

Recapping the 8 Biggest Revelations from CM Punk’s Art of Wrestling Interview

“But there’s no working relationship and there never will be ever again.”

CM Punk tried to ruin Thanksgiving.

I kid, I kid.  Last Thursday morning, in a 2 hour surprise appearance by CM Punk on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling, the Best in the World talked in depth about his departure from WWE and subsequently broke the internet.   The interview has crashed Cabana’s site, the Stitcher and iTunes links have been troublesome for 4+ days, and social media afire with discussion of Punk’s revelations.  Once Colt’s feed is back up, please download the interview from the source and support the content creator.

However, since the podcast has been hard to locate for some we’re going to go through some of the biggest claims, revelations, and quotes from Punk’s side of the story.  That’s one thing to keep in mind when recapping this interview as well, this is one side of a two-sided story.  Unfortunately, we probably will never hear the WWE’s side, especially since some of the allegations/statements made by Punk especially about WWE doctors is pretty damaging from a PR standpoint.  Whichever “side” you fall on, the fact that Punk is now happy and healthy is the most important takeaway from this whole shebang.

A lots of the rumors about Punk’s problems with WWE are confirmed by Punk in the interview: he was unhappy, creatively frustrated, injured, and in disputes about money, but it’s evident the biggest thing that caused him to walk away was his physical well being.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista on Chad Dukes Versus The World

Member of Evolution, six-time World Champion, and oh — the star of Guardians of the Galaxy  — Dave Bautista aka “The Animal” Batista made a surprise phone call to Monday’s Chad Dukes Versus the World.  The pair discusses Guardians, director James Gunn, his upcoming Kickboxer remake, Roman Reigns, and more.

For those of you living under a rock, Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer in Guardians and the WWE Superstar is being hailed by many as the breakout star of the blockbuster film. The opening weekend success, a record breaking 94 million dollars in North America alone, has taken many by surprise considering the relative obscurity of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in the comic books.

“It’s just as big of a surprise to me as it is to you,” Bautista joked. “I knew it was going to be great, I just didn’t know how people were going to accept my take on Drax. I just don’t think it was what people were expecting. Are they gonna love him or are they gonna hate him.”
