Cody Rhodes vs. Jay Lethal at ROH’s Final Battle

We knew Cody Rhodes was coming to Ring of Honor at December 2nd’s Final Battle back in July, but now we finally know his opponent.  Yesterday on Twitter, in conjunction with promos on Ring of Honor programming, Cody Rhodes revealed his first Ring of Honor opponent will be former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal.

With a win and Adam Cole retaining the ROH World Championship, Rhodes could be one step closer to achieving another dream match from his checklist.  It all goes down Friday, December 2nd at 9PM on PPV, iPPV, and VOD from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Survivor Series Results – WWE

Well, NONE of that went how I was expecting. Goldberg shockingly defeated Brock Lesnar in under 2 minutes, Team SmackDown lost two battles but won the big war in a near 60-minute elimination match, the IC title remained on the Blue Brand, and the Cruiserweights stay on Raw. Hit up the link for full details.

Goldberg Will Rumble – Pro Wrestling Sheet

Speaking of Goldberg, Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting the former WCW World Champion has agreed to appear in the 2017 Royal Rumble. You have to think whatever occurs at the Rumble will set up a third match between Goldberg & Lesnar.

NXT Takeover Results – WWE

Not to be outdone, NXT held a fantastic Takeover event Saturday night, highlighted by an excellent NXT Tag Team Championship 2 out of 3 falls match and a new NXT Champion.

Ospreay captures ROH Television Championship, And Then Drops Title to Scurll – ROH

The ROH Television Championship was a hot potato this weekend in the UK. Independent sensation Will Ospreay captured the Championship from Bobby Fish in his debut for Ring of Honor but 48 hours later Ospreay lost the championship to Marty Scurll, who also recently debuted for the company on this UK run. Conventional wisdom would think a rematch will go down in a few weeks at Final Battle to take care of both Ospreay and Fish’s rematch clause.  Fish was originally scheduled to face CMLL’s Dragon Lee for the championship at Final Battle.

Cody Rhodes Is Coming To Bound For Glory

Eagle-eyed viewers of the teaser on Wednesday may have figured it out, but last night on Impact Wrestling,  TNA confirmed that Cody Rhodes will be debuting for the company at October 2nd’s Bound For Glory.

In a vignette which aired on last night’s show, Rhodes announced his participation in TNA’s marquee event.

“You don’t know a man until you walk a mile in his shoes. I learn more about me every day, with every mile. My past is just that. My story is being written one step at a time. My future is decided by the roads that I take. I am bound for a new adventure. Where I’m going there is gold, there is glory, because for me, all roads lead to Bound for Glory.”

Rhodes is currently being billed strictly as “Cody” by TNA.  In addition to working with TNA, Rhodes is also still scheduled for Ring Of Honor’s year-end event Final Battle in New York City on December 2nd, as well as a packed calendar of independent wrestling shows.  Earlier this week, TNA also signed Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes to a Knockouts contract.

ROH Adds Six-Man Championship – ROH Wrestling

Ring of Honor will be introducing a new Six-Man Tag Team Championship with a tournament beginning at All Star Extravaganza 8.  Teams announced so far include The Bullet Club, The Cabinet, and Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Kamaitachi.  With the popularity of six-man matches in Mexico (see also Lucha Underground) I’d expect some of the talent coming to ROH from new partner CMLL will be involved in the division as well as the teams in New Japan’s NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Division.

Alberto Del Rio On The Outs Again – Wrestling INC

Wrestling INC is reporting that Alberto Del Rio gave notice to WWE 60 Days ago and will not be returning once his wellness policy suspension is completed.   Things seemed to go south with Del Rio rather rapidly after the dissolution of the League of Nations and then he and Paige, who he has been romantically linked, being drafted to separate shows.

SmackDown Tournament Semifinals Set – WWE

After The Hype Bros defeat of The Vaudevillains and Rhyno & Heath Slater’s victory over the returning Headbangers, the semifinals in the tournament to crown SmackDown Tag Team Champions are set.  Next week, American Alpha faces the Usos and Hype Bros square off with Rhyno & Heath Slater.  C’mon Rhyno & Slater, Beulah needs a double wide and an in-ground pool.  The winners of next week’s matches will meet in the Finals at BackLash.

Orton-Wyatt/Ziggler-Miz at BackLash – WWE

Also coming out of last night’s SmackDown Live, The Eater of Worlds will face The Viper at BackLash.  This matchup is a sticky wicket as both men need to gain some momentum, Wyatt, fresh off another Family breakup and Orton, fresh off a Brock Lesnar thrashing.  In addition, Dolph Ziggler will challenge The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship.

Women’s Title Rematch Set for SummerSlam – WWE

The rematch of last week’s Sasha Banks-Charlotte match for the WWE Women’s Championship has been scheduled for SummerSlam, joining Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose, & Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton on the show.

IWGP Intercontinental Championship Defense in Ring of Honor – ROH

Michael Elgin will return to ROH to defend his IWGP Intercontinental Championship at the upcoming Field of Honor event in Brooklyn, NY on August 27th.

NXT Curtain Call – Pro Wrestling Sheet

Bayley held a post show, in-ring send off for Finn Balor, Mojo Rawley, Carmella, & Nia Jax in Houston Saturday night.  All the NXT talents are wrapping up their time there before moving to the main roster.  Finn Balor took the mic after that to praise Matt Bloom and the NXT roster.
