Raw Kicks WWE Summer Season Off with a Bang

What a 48 hr period in WWE. I can’t remember a more tumultuous and eventful two days in quite some time. Returns, double crosses, double turns, a power struggle, new stables, and Sheamus debuted 1-800-FELLA…well, they can’t all be winners.

Last night’s edition of Raw is a prime example of WWE at its best: shocking occurrences setting up the summer storyline. In past years we’ve been treated to summertime gems like the pipebomb promo that spawned the Summer of Punk, the Nexus debut, or last year’s Brock-HHH feud which brought Paul Heyman back onto the WWE scene. This time it looks like we’ve got a number of fires burning.

WWE set a high bar last night launching a number of summertime storylines and building a potentially blockbuster SummerSlam card.

Lesnar-Punk

The long rumored feud for Summerslam has been set in to motion. CM Punk and Paul Heyman cut ties as “client-manager” but vowed to remain friends. Until Brock Lesnar had something to say about it. Much like Mark Henry’s storyline (more on that later), I don’t know who predicted we’d see Brock Lesnar back on WWE TV so far in advance of Summer Slam. Now that we’ve seen the F5 heard round the world, I have full confidence Punk and Heyman will carry the bulk of this feud with some masterful mic work.

CDW Top 5 Week of May 12th – May 19th

top5v2

It’s time once again for a wrap up of our weekly top 5 performers, our Fave Five as Booker T would say, based on THIS PAST week of action. Since the WWE week traditionally starts each Monday on Raw we’re also including last night’s Extreme Rules PPV.

Based on highly subjective criteria, here are OUR findings, with CDW writers voting for their top 5 names in all of Professional Wrestling for the week. Could be managers, could be superstars, could be announcers.

Disagree with our results? Want to argue a placement? Want to name your top 5? Feel free to leave a comment or message us on twitter: @dukeswrestling. We’ll gladly name names of who voted for whom, and demand the defend themselves.

Hit the jump for the results for this week.

Monday Night RAW Preview – 4/22/13

Photo Credit: WWE.comHas ANYONE checked to see if Heath Slater can actually walk? Anyone? … Someone? …

Tonight’s RAW has actually already been pretaped – as it emanated LIVE from the O2 Arena in London. Yes, I am aware spoilers are available. But that defeats the purpose of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!!

Don’t be that guy.

There is a lot to look forward to tonight! Primarily, European crowds are awesome. Most fans are really dialed into the quality of the live arena crowd at RAW and Smackdown after experiencing a dead crowd in Buffalo some weeks back, and the outrageous crowd on RAW post-Wrestlemania. They may have botched the whole dubya-dubya-2 thing, but Europe really has their crowd participation down solid.

Also in que for tonight (see what I did there?)…

  • THE BROTHERS OF DESTRUCTION are reuniting!

One of the top Tag-Teams of all time are uniting with the current Team Hell No iteration and will be taking on the Shield in 6-man tag action.

  • Brock Lesnar stole all of the attention off of Triple H regarding his WM29 win by way of assassinating 3MB.

What will be The Game’s response? He’s in London ya know!

  • CM Punk walked out on RAW last week with a shoulder shrug and a brother hug with Paul Heyman.

Will he show up tonight – or will Paul explain his absence, of that which will be quite noticeable.

  • Jack Swagger, for all of his decrees, has lost to everyone. Is he out of the World Heavyweight Title hunt?

If so, who is in? Is it Alberto Del Rio – or someone who has yet to be named?

  • Will John Cena have a response to Ryback allowing the champ to be dismantled by the Shield?

So many wrinkles here. WWE.com is teasing a possible fourth member of the Shield. Is this just conjecture, or is there one more person waiting to be added to this stable?

Hang with us tonight @dukeswrestling as we discuss all this, and nothing else whatsoever!

The Five Kingdoms

Its becoming more and more evident that we need a weekend wrap up column to encapsulate the ebb and flow of the last week of televised Pro-Wrestling action. We’re voting our weekly top 5 based on THIS PAST of action week only.

Clearly there could never be a consensus on anything more than 7 days of content. We’re simply too petty. But here are OUR findings, with all current CDW writers voting for their top 5 names in all of Professional Wrestling for the week.

I’ll be honest, some of these rankings is personally disagreed with – but the votes were what they were. As always, there is nothing more controversial in the world of Wrestling than a list. Disagree with our results? Want to argue a placement? Feel free to leave a comment or message us on twitter: @dukeswrestling. I’ll gladly name names of who voted for whom, and demand the defend themselves.

This is the first of many, so might as well get RIGHT into the results.  Continue reading →
