Impact President Releases Hardy Contract & WWE Email – Pro Wrestling Sheet

Well, that escalated quickly. Impact President Ed Nordholm released an account of his side of the Broken Brilliance trademark controversy including Matt Hardy’s contract and an email exchange with someone from WWE. FWIW, Reby Hardy is saying on Twitter that the contract posted is not the final contract Matt signed. Nordholm’s claim that WWE told him they weren’t interested in using the gimmick comes off a little flimsy in the email exchange. My read is that WWE’s representative seems to indicate they do not wish to be involved in Hardy and Impact’s legal negotiations.

Money in the Bank – Lords of Pain

It was announced last night on Smackdown that Randy Orton will invoke his rematch clause against Jinder Mahal at the Money in the Bank PPV, which will be Smackdown exclusive this year. Also, AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, Shinsuke Nakamura, & Kevin Owens will compete for the Money in the Bank briefcase. In a related story, Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting we could see a Women’s Money in the Bank match this year as well.

Mae Young Classic – WWE

WWE’s long rumored Women’s Tournament has a name and a schedule. The Mae Young Classic will take place at Full Sail University on July 13th and 14th. The tournament will be a 32-woman single elimination tournament set to stream later this summer. Rumored names so far to participate include Kairi Hojo and Io Shirai (who appeared as Hitokiri on Lucha Underground) from Stardom, Mia Yim and Marti Bell formerly of TNA, and Kimber Lee and Ruby Riot from NXT.

Extreme Rules – WWE

Following last night’s Raw, June’s Extreme Rules show is taking shape. The Hardys will face Sheamus & Cesaro in a Steel Cage Match, the Fatal Five Way #1 Contenders Match is being billed as an “Extreme Rules Fatal Five Way”, the Cruiserweight Championship match between Austin Aries and Neville will be under Submission Rules, and Dean Ambrose could lose his title via Disqualification when he takes on The Miz.

Broken Hardys Trademark Update – Pro Wrestling Sheet

Anthem President Ed Nordholm is currently deep in a game of “He Said/She Said” with Reby Hardy. Nordholm is claiming that he’s not keeping the Broken Universe from Matt and Jeff Hardy and further suggesting that WWE has no interest in the gimmick. Reby Hardy, on the other hand, has said Anthem has been ignoring the Hardys’ lawyers for weeks as the brothers attempt to reach a settlement and avoid suing the company. FWIW, Dave Meltzer doesn’t believe Nordholm’s claim that WWE wouldn’t be interested in the gimmick.

War of the Worlds UK – Wrestling Observer

And finally, Ring of Honor announced a UK War of the Worlds tour which will be a joint venture with New Japan, CMLL, and Rev Pro this August.

WWE World Championship: Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton (C)

The Era of the Maharaja has begun! In a shocking upset, Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton with a Cobra Clutch Slam to win the WWE Championship after Orton was distracted taking out the Singh Brothers, wrecking one in particular on the Spanish Announce table. Orton attacked Mahal before the bell rang but Mahal controlled a good portion of the match working over Orton’s shoulder.

It was an average WWE match which was elevated by a great atmosphere at times, from Mahal being booed heavily during his entrance, receiving dueling “Let’s Go Jinder/Jinder Sucks” chants during the match and the legendary post-match fan reactions. As someone who bores quickly when Randy Orton is the blue-eyed baby face champion, the shakeup of Mahal as the SmackDown kingpin is a welcome development for a show that has struggled since AJ Styles was unseated as the Champ That Runs The Camp.
