The Chad Dukes Wrestling Show Interview with TNA’s Tyrus

Tyrus-645x369

Monstrous BC himself, Tyrus joined the Chad Dukes Wrestling Show this past week to discuss working with EC3, his thought process on signing with TNA, working with Jason Albert, dancing gimmicks in WWE, Dusty Rhodes, John Cena’s recent mention of him on Raw, Hard Knocks South gym, TNA/ROH, and more.

In a very hilarious listen which you can check out below, Tyrus pulls no punches when joking about the Funkasaurus gimmick, John Cena, and ROH.

On former tag team Partner Jason Albert aka Tensai:

I think my game expanded tagging with him.  So deep, man he knows so much he doesn’t let anything bother him, where I’m more emotional. Everything bothers me. Like somebody says something sideways I’m like, ‘I’m gonna kill that-‘ and he’ll be like, ‘Hey man, hey, relax it’s okay forget it.’ Perfect example, when we had to do that lingierie spotI was more upset that he had to do that and he was like, ‘Hey, we’re going to make this work.’  And we ended up being a tag team.  I wanted us to turn heel together.”

“Performance-wise not seeing him is a disservice to the fans but as a trainer, think you’re going to start seeing this next generation of guys coming up under his tutelage, you’re going to see a lot of guys that really got their stuff together.  His influence, I mean he was he was in the Attitude Era and he was in after that, he was in New Japan, as far as like moves, psychology, and stuff I can’t think of anyone better to be honest with you.”

On the Funkasaurus gimmick:

“All I can say is in another life I think the boss wanted to be Barishnikov or there was some disco clubs somewhere in America in the 60’s or early 70’s that that this guy got it and he never got out of that mindset or he just grew up watching a lot of musicals.  The whole point of the Funkasaurus was I crack jokes backstage.  I’m a smart ass, I tease people, that’s what I do in a locker room, and somehow he heard me cracking jokes one day and said ‘Ah he’s funny, let’s make him dance.’  I’m like, ‘How does jokes equate to dancing?’  I don’t even dance when I’m in the club, I bob my head, that was not my thing.  I’m bi-racial and the white part of me took over dancing because I just don’t do it.  I don’t have it, I don’t want to have it, and whenever I did dance I felt like just like I was naked coming out the beach in a snowstorm.”

On Dusty Rhodes helping him after learning about the Funkasaurus gimmick:

“I mean, I couldn’t have done [The Funkasaurus] without Dusty Rhodes. He was so instrumental in the whole character thing.”

“I spent the whole day with Dusty and he played ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and me and him danced to it in the arena all day.  I actually have the footage but I was told I was never allowed to show it but I watched it the other day because I missed him.”

“This is the same guy when I first got there and I was about four hundred sixty pounds they told me I had to wear trunks.  I was like, ‘Oh my god, they hate me.’  So what does Dusty do?  He comes to work with his shirt off.  He walks around the arena with his shirt off.  ‘If I can do it baby, you can do it.’ “

Joking about John Cena’s mention of him on Raw recently:

“Cena ran his mouth a couple weeks ago that I was lumped in with the XFL, son of a bitch, and I was like he XFL was cool.  And listen, the only difference between him and P.N. News is that he got a push, because he wasn’t the first rapping gimmick.  He wasn’t the first guy with a chain, he just won some titles. If he didn’t he’s just white P.N. News.”

“It’s good.  He wants to do an open challenge, keep running your mouth you know, you’ll see the US Title in TNA.  I’ll keep it for as long as I want to.  But yeah I mean it’s one of those things where you know what my name’s being dropped in three wrestling promotions in one week, why not.”

On the ROH/TNA/Destination America deal:

“I think at first you are like what the hell.  Why are we on the same network?  Then we’re relying on them hoping they’re doing a good show because three hours a wrestling, let’s be honest is hard.  I think that the WWE and Raw, fans for three hours they don’t usually stay though three hours.  It’s just a long time for wrestling.  The difference in the production though, no disrespect to the guys at ROH,  they they bust their asses, it’s a different style.  The most deadly move in ROH is a roll-up.  I could literally, if you and I were wrestling in ROH I could shoot you with a shotgun and you‘d kick out but if I roll you up you’re like a turtle on your back.  Which is my problem too like I can kick out of anything but I can’t kick out of a roll up. I think it’s gravity. I just I know for three seconds I can’t movecomplete fish out of water.”

“When you see the production value and the fact that most of their stuff is is recorded and run from what I understand oncouple other networks before it’s ran on Wednesdays, do it’s not live, it’s not recorded just for Destination America. That for me I was more alarmed with. welcome the competition. Back in the day on Saturday morning I can remember watching Mid-South would come on and then NWA would come on and you’d be watching three or four wrestling shows on one network.  You know so I mean that’s fine, I just think my concern was just is this good for our brand in terms of like, is Destination America going to help them with their production, you know to turn on a light or two on this on their show.  Some people will take it like I’m dissing ROH but at the end of the day I’m not dissing the workers at all but I just think the production value is not up to par with TNA.  To make the same arguments you know nobody’s on production value of WWE but I think we’re close second.”
