Last night on Raw, the first vignette (above) for Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt Family aired. Suffice to say, I’m interested. I’ve beat the drum for Bray Wyatt since I first saw the early version of the character in FCW and have been following the development of the character through the ups and downs of his time in FCW/NXT.
With his re-debut in WWE imminent, I thought it’d be a fine time time to bring everyone up to date on who and what makes up The Wyatt Family.
Formerly known as Husky Harris of the New Nexus, the “Army Tank with a Ferarri engine,” Wyatt was reassigned to FCW/NXT in 2011 after being written off WWE TV by a Randall Keith Orton head punt. In March of 2012, Husky Harris became Bray Wyatt, a Cape Fear/Waylon Mercy (google it marks) style religious zealot backed up by Eli Cottonwood of NXT Season 3 “fame.”
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for Wyatt, he was sidelined with a torn pectoral muscle shortly after his vignettes began airing on the new NXT. So rather than wrestling, Wyatt began to recruit followers, in the form of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. Recently, Wyatt had a match with Chris Jericho on NXT that has been praised.
While channeling a bit of Max Cady and a bit of southern preacher, Wyatt has taken an even creepier turn as of late donning a slaugherhouse apron and mask and started calling himself the “Eater of Worlds.”
Luke Harper & Erick Rowan
Wyatt’s followers or Family, Harper & Rowan are the current NXT tag team champions. Luke Harper fka Brodie Lee, is a veteran of the independent wrestling circuit (Chikara, Dragons Gate, Ring of Honor) and Rowan is a relative newcomer, initially debuting as a scandanavian Viking-esque character before falling under Wyatt’s spell.
Last night’s vignette is a great example of the positives of the developmental system. During his time in FCW/NXT, Wyatt has has the opportunity to really hone and refine this character. Let’s just hope the potential in these videos, makes the jump with Wyatt and his family to the big show.
