On the heels of our pal (ok, Chad’s pal) Dave Bautista scoring a role in a major Marvel Comics property, another rippling adonis of a man who happens to be a pro wrestler is eyeing a role in another huge franchise. The Rock wants to be in Star Wars.
While promoting G.I. Joe Retaliation in Sydney, Australia, the WWE Champion said that being in G.I. Joe was a child hood dream since his two favorite action figure franchises were the Joes and Star Wars. Now he apparently wants to make the other dream come true.
I played with two lines of action figures when I was a kid: G.I. Joe and Star Wars.
By the way, because we didn’t have a lot of money, I used to steal them. I’d just rip open the packages and shove ‘em in my pockets … like a lot of kids. I got caught a couple of times, got my ass kicked by my parents.
So when I got the call saying, ‘How do you feel about becoming the leader of the G.I. Joes?’, it was like if I got a call from George Lucas saying, ‘I want you to be in Star Wars’.
I’m gonna call J.J. and you’re gonna help by printing it and I’m gonna be in Star Wars!
I can’t fault the man for politicking to do things that would fulfill childhood dreams, if I were an actor I’d want to be in all the film/tv projects that sync up with my nerd interest that I could. Hell, I dream daily of picking up stakes and divorcing my wife and creepily stalking Triple H to get a job with WWE! I kid. Don’t tell my wife. Or Triple H.
What do you think? Should Abrams consider Rock for a role in the new Star Wars? Should he be a hero? A villian? Give us a holler in the comment.
