The New WWE Championship Revealed

Last night on Raw, WWE Champion the Rock revealed the new WWE Championship Belt seen above, seemingly ending the “Spinner Belt” era.

Being a bunch of marks like you here at CDWS, we’ve been monitoring the “new belt situation” for quite some time. Our own Frogman LeBlanc had early indications back in June that this was coming and after a 8-month wait the belt has finally arrived.

Overall, even though it’s not the winged eagle, I like it. When I saw the initial plates I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. However, when you think about how the WWE presents itself and it’s “Universe”, why wouldn’t the WWE Logo be the dominant theme for the WWE Championship. It’s not going to be a “World Heavyweight Championship” belt, because we already have one of those.

My only gripe are the “Brahma Bulls” on the side plates. Thankfully, from the looks of the replica already on sale at WWE Shop.com, these panels will serve the same purpose as the nameplate, with the champion’s logo or a generic logo.

What are your thoughts on the new belt? Does it stand up to past WWE Championship designs? However you feel, it could have been a lot worse.

I like it and the “bull” plates are interchangeable. It would be cool if every champ got their own special plate there. Like Cena has mini=spinners or Punk has straight Edge “X” or Bryan has “YES”. It is way better than the old belt, but then again there are many indy fed belts better than the old WWE title. I like the main plate with the logo as this is the “WWE” title and that should be the focus. The jewels look good and it doesn’t come off too gawdy. Thumbs up.

Is there no name plate? Only gripe are the bulls along the belt itself. I agree with this guy ^, if each winner gets their plates, very fun addition.

Overall, I like the shapes of the plates and their relationship to the plates, as well as the amount of detail put into the side plates (especially on the non-champ-specific replica version). There’s just something about the hugeness of the logo that rubs me a bit the wrong way, even though I understand the logic of it being “branded” the way it is. I think it’s less because it’s the dominant design element , but more like the ONLY design element on the front plate.

Critique aside, I could definitely get used to this belt. The more I see it, the more I accept it.

Even if some of the “marketing speak” quotes in the official company story about it make me uneasy. Heh!

And I meant “relationship to each other” instead of “relationship to the plates” in my first sentence above.

At first I didn’t like it at all. Then I read an article about the belt on WWE.com and saw some high-res photos and have some to actually turn around and love it. The plates look to be interchangeable which should be great for Superstars who want something individual and for other Superstars who are looking for a more classic look. All-in-all no spinner is more gooder.
