Straight from the “not great timing” department, days after a blackout caused a 40 minute delay at the Super Bowl, another high-profile event is rumored to be heading to the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans.  PW Torch is reporting that WWE WrestleMania XXX will be coming to the Superdome in 2014.

Your intrepid reporter would have to think that WWE will be working dilligently so that the biggest event of their calendar year doesn’t suffer the same power problems that occurred this past Sunday. With some saying that because of the blackout, New Orleans should never get a Super Bowl again until a new stadium is built, it has become a bit of a risky location for an entertainment spectacle such as WrestleMania.

To be fair, the Superdome has a storied history of great wrestling events with Mid-South Wrestling from the late 70′s to mid 80′s, the NWA’s first Crocket Cup, and WCW’s Flair/Steamboat II at a Clash of the Champions. The venue makes sense for the WrestleMania “spectacle” and I’m sure we can expect Mid-South alumni such as the Freebirds, Jake the Snake Roberts, Magnum T.A., the late Dr. Death Steve Williams, the Midnight Express, the Rock and Roll Express, to be among the rumored WWE Hall of Fame names for next year with the show in New Orleans.

New Orleans, Jazz, and confetti, also could mean a return of this fabulous strut by Vince to the tune of “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Heal up Mr. Chairman.

What do you think about WrestleMania coming to such a controversial location on the heels of the blackout?
