Daniel Bryan Squashed At Wrestlemania

This is easily the best move Daniel Bryan executed all weekend.  After his match lasted just 18 seconds, a near-record, the former World Heavyweight Champion has been silent.  According to WWE.com,

“With his history-making feat, Sheamus becomes a three-time World Champion, while Daniel Bryan leaves WrestleMania with egg on his face. How will the submission specialist react to falling to the Irish Superstar in such a hasty fashion? Find out Friday on SmackDown on Syfy at 8/7 CT.”

I’m not sure it was necessarily history-making, since Kane defeated Chavo Guerrero in 8 seconds, but that’s neither here nor there.  WWE will make fans wait nearly a week before hearing from Daniel Bryan after the defeat.  He’ll probably blame AJ for the kiss scenario, but readers will obviously know better.

According to SEScoops.com, WWE creative has apparently been planning this for a while, but wanted the record this year for shortest match.  They didn’t get it.  But why Bryan? Why end his reign?  We still don’t really know the answer to that.  It still doesn’t make a lot of sense for a Championship match to last just 18 seconds, unless it was the US Championship or Women’s Championship.  I can understand why there were those inside WWE creative were against it, it just doesn’t make sense to do this to one of your rising stars.  Sheamus on the other hand…

Sheamus has been getting a huge push lately, and it’s well deserved after he jobbed for most of 2011.  Sheamus even created a twitter last night just to post him posing with the championship (it’s still his first, and only, tweet).  Sheamus hasn’t even been on twitter for 24 hours and already has over 20,000 followers (you can follow him at @WWESheamus).

What are your thoughts on why Bryan was forced to lose the World Heavyweight Championship in just 18 seconds?  Is it just the WWE pushing Sheamus or is Daniel Bryan losing his appeal with the fans?

Maybe Daniel Bryan was hurt or had been working hurt and wouldn’t be in position to put on a WM level match?

This is the one match that made me shake my head. You take a guy who has some much talent and has built himself up as a solid heal Champ, and crap on him. Sheamus and Bryan could have put on a solid, if not great match, but hey, you have to give more time for promos, the Divas match and that Funka…. nevermind, to bad the WWE does this to a guy who deserve more. I guess they don’t listen to the crowds, they are all over Bryan right now.

After watching RAW, the quick match at Wrestlemania may have hurt Shameus’ standing with the WWE Universe. Loud Boos from the crowd directed towards Shamus overshadowed the cheering that has typically accompanied him in recent months. I do not believe the crowd thinks Shameus is undeserving of the title. Rather, the crowd is bitter against the WWE for ruining what could have been one of Wrestlemania’s best matches of the night. While Shameus is deserving and I expected him to walk out of Wrestemania champion, I too wish there was a solid match and would have booed tonight. Not at Shameus, but at the WWE.
