It Begins…?

Big shouts out to loyal Chad Dukes Wrestling Show fan, Craig for sending along evidence of what may be one of the WWE’s shrewdest pieces of viral marketing to date.

During the Jack Swagger vs. Sheamus match on the latest RAW Supershow WWE put its twitter graphic in the bottom left corner where they usually display WWE related trending topics or what hashtags you should use to discuss the broadcast. That’s not so unusual and at first it only displayed, @WWE #RAW seen below.

Shortly there after it went to a static-y version, with color bars and some hard to read text, seen here.

That’s when the plot thickens…

It’s tough to make out but the text is a link, a link to a youtube channel from user itbegins2012, this account only came online today and only has one video, here it is courtesy of youtube.

Eery right? It features a young boy writing in a notebook and talking in vocabulary beyond his years. His message is simple, “On the second day of two thousand twelve a familiar force shall arrive to claim what is his, and it will be the end of the world as you know it.” So, apparently something familiar is coming on 1-2-12. Now, the obvious explanation is The Undertaker returning to action, but we’d love to hear what you think, leave us a comment below.

  1. RJ Becker says:

It has to be the taker coming back for his run to mania.

  2. WordRick says:

Jericho? That graphic looked like something of Jericho’s.

  3. Kevin Ford says:

I tweeted this to you as well, but “It Begins” anagrams to “I Be Sting”. Unlikely, but it would be wonderful.

  4. Donny says:

Any chance it could be the return on Jericho?

  5. Jeremy says:

Why am I afraid it’s setting up the return of either Vince or HHH?

  6. jowderballs says:

    Return of Chris Jericho!

  7. busseyinc says:

    It’s y2J I’m hoping

  8. PWInsider says:

Perhaps Kane, in full monster mode, mask and all?

  9. Alex says:

Return of the NWO lead by Vince and Nash? Regardless i am excited!

  10. Matt says:

    Let the speculation begin!

Undertaker is the obvious choice, given the mention of punishment and apocalypse. His Lord of Darkness gimmick is written all over this. There is also the focus on the date, which coincides with the last Taker return when we saw “2-21-11.” It seems to early to see him return for his obligatory WM streak match, but who knows…

Chris Jericho is an interesting choice but doesn’t make sense given his current status. Jericho seems pretty involved with Fozzy, and looks to be embroiled in recording their new record due out in February 2012.

One possibly unconsidered return is Kane. Maybe it is just me and my love for that guy, but Kane has been out a while, and could be in for a good push as a monster heel. Some reports have him coming back closer to the Royal Rumble, but that could easily be a means of throwing off the fans.

  11. Richie says:

The 2nd promo of the night definitely hinted at a Kane return so it’s a little unclear whether those are connected or separate.

  12. Josh says:

Kane promo and then there’s this? I think they’re related and they’re giving a big push for Kane again. New mask maybe? The old one was burned at the end of the promo they showed. If I remember correctly he said he needs to become the monster he once was. Would be awesome.

  13. Edward Estrada says:

Long shot, but I’m calling it now.

The return of the 1-2-3 Kid.

He made his return at Chikara’s King of Trios event, why not one last run in the WWE, not as Xpac, but as 1-2-3 Kid.

  14. Brandon McLeish says:

I’m calling it right now. With the Kane clips and this for the Undertaker, It’s going to be Brother vs. Brother at Wrestlemania and the streak will be over.

    • Ben says:

This seems like the best way to make all this fit …. if “new” masked kane ends undertaker’s streak, I will do a million flying air fist pumps and mid air roundhouse kicks.

  15. Shane 5-0 says:

Like any other speculation, this is a long shot in the dark. “A power shall come to PUNISH the meek” “A FAMILIAR FORCE shall arrive to claim what is his” This obviously indicates someone of WWE past, who is dominate, powerful, and capable of running through the entire WWE roster to claim what is his, assuming this to be WWE title.

Let is begin? Or… HERE COMES THE PAIN? Yes, this is a very slim to none possibility, but if The Rock can return, why not Brock Lesnar? He’s on good terms with the WWE (re: WWE12) and with Vince working hard to get the WWE Network up and running, crossover exposure would help immensely. Brock is competing for the UFC on Dec30, very close to Jan2, however it doesn’t mean he has to come in and wrestle a match on Raw that night. An appearance, a storyline, something short term. It would make more sense for him to come back to the WWE right after a UFC fight, instead of coming in when he’s busy training closer to his next fight in 2012.

The most obvious guess is The Undertaker, since the WWE has put a lot of effort into his vignettes of the past. The tagline for the video is “Prophecy1yt” This would be a term most likely associated with Taker, but why not just “prophecy?” Could the “1yt” mean anything? The WWE could have aired the video on TV, but they wanted everyone to flock to YouTube. Could all these little details be clues? Age of the YouTube user is 43. Could this mean anything? The closest to this age, of WWE’s past, is Batista. But this could be reading way too much into nothing that’s there.

It virtually could be anyone, this vignette leaves so much to the imagination. I’m glad WWE did this and I’m glad they posted it weeks in advance, instead of 1 or 2 weeks beforehand. It builds suspense and it peaks interest.

To throw out two more final guesses…
Worst Case Scenario: Andy Levine, “Silent Rage” from Tough Enough
Best Case Scenario: Stone Cold Steve Austin

  16. Tummy Rockets says:

jericho or taker …could this lead to a jericho / taker match at wrestlemania?

  17. Craig says:

My brain says Taker. Its the same style they always do with him. Biblical sounding script.

I have a slight thought that its Jericho and the “contract talks fell through” is a smoke screen.

My hope is its a new star or Brock Lesnar returns. And then I’d have to throw out these pants.
